Rationale
The African Union has long recognized the diaspora as Africa’s “Sixth Region,” affirming the vital role of global African communities in advancing continental development. Despite this, formal economic structures connecting the diaspora to African economies remain underdeveloped.
This proposal responds to a growing demand and a critical necessity —both on the continent and across the diaspora—for structured platforms to promote:
- Joint venture creation,
- Investment facilitation,
- Technology and knowledge transfer, and
- Institutional strengthening across sectors.
With over 1.6 billion people of African descent worldwide, this initiative offers a pathway to realize the full potential of the Sixth Region in alignment with Agendas 2030 and 2063 and other multilateral development objectives.
Proposal Objectives
This initiative seeks to:
- Institutionalize diaspora-continental economic partnerships through structured engagement and joint ventures,
- Leverage U.S.-based expertise and financial ecosystems to support African’s six regions industrialization and infrastructure development,
- Create pathways for sustained investment in high-growth sectors across Africa’s six regions, and
- Reinforce the African Union’s Sixth Region vision with practical, actionable programs that benefit both continental nations and diaspora communities.
